Generation RX: A Teen Drug Epidemic

Posted By: Dal Archer in News

Teenagers today are not using as much cocaine, LSD and ecstasy as teens of the past. Unfortunately, they are moving toward using much more accessible drugs such as prescription painkillers and over the counter medicines such as cough syrup to get high. Studies show that today’s teens are more likely to have abused a prescription painkiller than any illicit drug.

The Sapulpa Parenting Education Program and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs are presenting “Generation RX: A Hidden Epidemic – Today’s Teen Drug Abuse on April 14 from 6:30-8:30 PM in the Sapulpa High School Commons area.

This free presentation will feature Michael Snowden of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs as well as other interested and concerned parents to learn more about alcohol abuse and the types of prescription and over the counter drugs that are being abused. In addition, parents will learn what is driving teens to use, where teens are getting these drugs, the latest “drug lingo” along with the latest non-verbal signals/communication, being able to recognize signs and symptoms, and tips to protect your child from prescription drug and alcohol abuse. A panel of local law enforcement, school officials, counselors, and a local pharmacist will also be available for a question and answer session.

We highly recommend this informative conference. For more information please call 224-6560 ext 2107 or send email to spep@sapulpa.k12.ok.us.
