Lady Ponies Conquer Checotah

The Lady Ponies improved to 3-5 on the season Tuesday night at home with a 35-30 win over the Checotah Lady Wildcats.
Mandy Simek put the lady Ponies on the scoreboard first with an offensive putback. Checotah tied the game before Simek scored again before Tashina Gause sank the game’s first trey for the 7-2 score.
Rhenda Hall score back-to-back baskets as the Lady Wildcats called a timeout. Kellyville led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Jenny Duncan scored early in the second frame. Checotah converted a pair of 3-point plays to pull within one point at 16-15 before Gause recorded an old-fashioned 3-point play for the Lady Ponies.
Taylor Todd got into the scoring column before Hall scored the final three points of the quarter for the 24-17 score at intermission.
The third quarter was an offensive disaster as both teams only scored two points the entire quarter. Hall recorded a pair of blocks while Todd made two free throws for Kellyville’s only points. The Lady Ponies led 26-19 heading into the fourth.
Checotah opened the final quarter on a 10-2 run to grab its first lead of the night at 29-28. Kellyville recaptured the lead on two Hall free throws before Gause scored the final five points of the game to secure the victory for the Lady Ponies.
Hall and Gause led the way with 11 points apiece, Simek and Todd each followed with four, Robinson three and Duncan closed out the scoring with two points.
